Bio

Naveed is the son of Dr Naseem Jamali from Pakistan and Ms. Claude Chaptal from France. He grew up outside of New York City and attended New York University graduating in 1999 with a B.A. in Politics. After graduating he moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked at University Information Systems at Harvard University.

As a first generation American, September 11th, 2001 was a defining moment for Naveed. The desire to serve led him to the recruiting office of the US Navy where he applied to become an intelligence officer. Before Naveed received his commission he spent 3 years working for the FBI as an intelligence operative working undercover against the GRU (Russian military intelligence). His target was a senior Russian intelligence officer working out of Russia's Mission to the United Nations. His actions directly resulted in "a significant contribution to our Nation's national security," and most specifically thwarted the collection efforts of the GRU and the removal from the US of a senior Russian intelligence officer.

In 2009 Naveed was commissioned as an intelligence officer in the US Navy Reserve. He has served with various commands, including the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) and the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). He continues to serve as a reserve intelligence officer.

In 2015 Naveed published a memoir about his time working against Russian intelligence, and began working as a military/national security expert. He appeared on various cable news channels and his writings have been featured in Military Times, Newsweek, the Daily Beast, the NY Daily News and others. In 2017 Naveed joined MSNBC as an intelligence analyst, and also was invited to brief the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) on Russian intelligence tactics relating to the 2016 election interference investigation.

Naveed has attended DoD/Intelligence Community schools, completed graduate coursework at Naval War College and is a Senior Fellow of National Security at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

He lives in Queen Anne with his wife, Dr. Ava Brent, and their two sons Casey (9) and Toby (6).
